To be colorblind

I have wanted to start a blog for some time now, to share in the wealth of knowledge available of the lives of children all across the globe. While most of my attention is centered around Guatemala, my eyes and heart are open to needy children in all of Gods' creation. I feel like as a nation we are spoiled. We get so wrapped up in our own lives that we fail to see what is going on in this great big world around us. We accuse our government of all of it's supposed shortcomings, when really in the grand scheme of things, we are quite spoiled. Our great nation provides us with healthcare for those who cannot afford it in the form of Medicare, Medicaid, Chips, etc. It provides the hungry with food-stamps, food pantries, food drives, soup kitchens, not to mention the endless supply of churches that will more than happily feed you. It provides homes to the homeless in group homes, shelters, etc and for children we have a foster system, adoption system, etc. We have Salvation Army, Goodwill etc. The list goes on and on. And I think we are all aware of what is available.
Children in other countries are not always so fortunate. For example, the street children in Guatemala. This is one problem that is probably the closest to my heart. An unstable economy, following a 36 year long civil war, widespread poverty, child labor and child abuse amongst other difficulties have sent 5,000-6,000 children to live on the streets. I will touch more on this and more later.
There is life beyond all of these misfortunes. We can help. Not one person alone, but united we can. There are countless missionaries, churches, adoption agencies, etc that are more than willing to help you help the children. And just think how that would make you feel, if you could help just one life. Feed one child, clothe on child, educate on child? Or better yet, provide a loving forever home for just one child.
This blog was conceived out of love for just one child. That love is growing and is bursting out of me like helium from a balloon. My hope is that this passion is contagious. Can YOU be colorblind?
